Review: Passion Bites

Passion Bites Passion Bites by Mary Hughes
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

I received a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.

I have only read one other book in this series (something like 5 books before this one) but this book read absolutely fine as a standalone. While there were certainly serious and deep moments, it was still a really fun read. Who wouldn’t want to read about an uptight doctor and the damaged vampire who happen to light the pages on fire with their chemistry?

Alexis is the aforementioned uptight doctor. She’s always followed her “grand plan,” working hard and taking care of her BFF while trying to save money to open a women’s shelter. It seems like everything is slowly falling into place until her patient’s uncle walks into her exam room and turns her world upside down. Sure, she already knew about vampires (it seems like everyone in this town does), but it’s the feelings he awakens that scare the crap out of her. Some bad timing also makes sure that her “sure thing” of a plan is unravelling at the same time.

Luke has had a hard life and has become a bit broken. After failing to save his wife hundreds of years ago, he hasn’t been able to even think of being with someone else. All of that changes when he meets Alexis and finds himself inexplicably drawn to her. While he says he wants to honor his wife’s memory, his actions say he is more than ready to take the chance on a new relationship. His determination is tested when Alexis throws herself into a dangerous situation with one of their enemies all to try to save her precious plan. These two are both damaged in their own way and are certainly fun to watch heal one another (and have some steamy sexy scenes together). This book makes me want to go back and read all the others in the series so I get to see how all the wonderful couples we see in this one were made.
