Loyal To The Bear (BBW Paranormal Shapeshifter Romance) by Meredith Clarke
My rating: 4 of 5 stars
I received a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.
This short story was engaging and easy to read as a standalone. I have no experience with this series, but that didn't hurt me at all.
Henry and Carly met each other in college and easily fell into a once in a lifetime relationship. Things were going along swimmingly until Carly found out that Henry has been hiding his shifter heritage. Carly's history with shifters has been less than stellar, what with her father being killed by a shifter right before her eyes when she was younger. In a very simplistic way, she has grouped all shifters into the "dangerously unstable" category without looking into it any further. When she hears Henry talking about being a shifter, she runs as far as she can from him. She seems content to live out her life being miserable and alone until Henry resurfaces, unable to stay away from what he thinks is his mate.
A normal reunion story would just end with a nice HEA after the reunion, but this story throws in a serial killer, a change of heart, and some flash-bang chemistry. This was definitely a good, solid read for a quiet afternoon. It made me wonder what the rest of this world is like.
