Review: The Demon: Episode 1

The Demon: Episode 1 The Demon: Episode 1 by Sarra Cannon
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Full disclosure: I have not read the author's other series that is apparently set in the same world. I went into this short story blind and was hooked.

Franki has been trying to juggle work, college, and her own personal issues. She has no love life to speak of and can barely get time away from her studying to have a good time. On her 21st birthday, however, she lets her friends convince her to go out and have a good time. Earlier that day, however, she gets an ominous package of black roses with a card. It seems some mysterious stranger wants to freak her out by using the same endearment that her missing mom loved to use. The card also points her to a club that nobody can confirm even exists. This should be a recipe for dangerous times!

Franki and her friend soon find themselves in over their heads, surrounded by things that neither one of them can explain rationally. Sure, there isn't big resolution in this story (hence the title "Episode 1") but I will definitely be back for more from this series!
