Review: Sex and the Single Vamp

Sex and the Single Vamp
Sex and the Single Vamp by Robin Covington

My rating: 4 of 5 stars

I received a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.

It gets 4 stars for sizzle and 3 stars for story, which gives it an average of 3.5 stars in my book.

Cici was thrown into the world of being a vampire without much guidance and no known "maker." After years of finding her way and generally hiding from the public, now that vampires are "out" she is running a dating service for paranormals and humans who want to mingle. This, not surprisingly, is not necessarily a popular opinion among paranormals and humans alike. Enter Deacon, one of her loudest protesters. He's hot, rich, and has been in her life since before she was a vampire. When the two are in the same room, they sizzle and spark. The chemistry is insane! That being said, I couldn't care less that he essentially blackmails her into his bed -- as long as they end up there!

Deacon is hiding a huge secret (or multiple secrets along the way) and that hovers over their budding relationship's head until circumstances (and baddies) force the issue. This paranormal world was quirky and unique -- and I hope to read much more from this author! If you're looking for a paranormal romance with some hot hot hot scenes, check this book out.

Review: Lost in Prophecy

Lost in Prophecy
Lost in Prophecy by S.M. Reine

My rating: 4 of 5 stars

I received a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.

Where to begin with this book? This one was filled with twists and turns and lots of surprise guests. Just when you think you know where the series is headed, everything and everyone ends up getting beat up, destroyed, or betrayed in the most unexpected way. I am absolutely in love with the gritty and broken world that the author has created. It combines things that absolutely should not ever be mixed together and it is beautiful.

So, obviously, I love this series and all the related ones. If you haven't read the previous books, I recommend that you pick them up (start from the very beginning) and work your way to this one. You won't be disappointed. The basic building blocks from the first book still manage to tie in here. Which means I should probably talk about the specifics of this book. Obviously there are going to be spoilers from the past installments because it's just impossible to talk about otherwise.

Elise is still the awesome ruler of hell, trying to do good in her own way. She's on her own type of path to redemption (which is pretty difficult in hell) that takes her past all of her previous failures. You can't talk about her past without mentioning James. He gets some serious time in this book, and you don't spend most of it hating him. I'm still secretly wishing that James and Elise could ride off into the sunset together, but I'll take what I can get. There are some moments in this book that had my heart soaring, even though the progress was infinitesimal. A little smile here, a little touch there and I'm in heaven (actually, they're in hell, but you get the idea).

Riley is still a bit of a conflicted alpha. There's too many bad guys to count at this point and somehow the werewolves are pretty much the only guardians between hell and Earth. Pretty big responsibilities have been placed on a small group of misfits held together by a curse. Drama ensues (when does Riley *not* have drama?) and I'm sure we'll be picking up the pieces from it for a while. Riley and Elise's friendship is a little bright spot in that they sort of balance each other out. There's big things on the horizon and I'm excited about where things are headed. There's more honesty for almost all the characters, but oodles of surprises jammed in. This is the part I hate most -- waiting for the next one!

Review: Dancing with Dragons

Dancing with Dragons
Dancing with Dragons by Lorenda Christensen

My rating: 4 of 5 stars

I received a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.

This book picks up with Carol and the events that take place immediately after chaos really exploded at the hotel. There's a few good chapters of catch up, so even though it's been a while since I read the last book, I was okay with hitting the ground running (literally for Carol). Sadly, she has managed to miss the fact that Richard and her are on the run due to a pesky coma that occupied a lot of her time. Lucky for her, after waking, she finds herself confronted by a hottie that she assumes is her doctor. Shockingly, he's not actually her doctor, but he does set off a chain of events that throws Carol into even more trouble (if that's possible).

The setting for these books is a sort of dystopian future, which breaks one of my genre rules for reading. However, I freely ignore my previous preferences for this series. It's fun and light hearted but still has some serious action and adventure elements. There's oodles of sizzle (Daniel and Carol really know how to heat up a scene together), but it all fades to black (for those of you worried about that sort of stuff). Dragons in these stories are really dragons (not slightly dragon-ized people) and sometimes they are big scary monster. It's a really neat world that the author has created, with some really fun characters. I hope it continues to get better and better.

Review: The Third

The Third
The Third by Zhu Hsia

My rating: 4 of 5 stars

I received a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.

This book was a completely unique spin on your typical YA vampire romance. There's a wonderful love story that had me choking up towards the end, but delivers a very rewarding HEA.

I will freely admit to having not read many books with a non-US setting, but don't let that scare you off of reading this really good read. Mun Oh, teenage "bloodsucker" extraordinaire (if he does say so himself) inherited the role of Lee family heir when his older sister chose to live among the humans. The only thing missing is a formal ritual that he must ask her to perform. The last thing he expected when he went to see her was finding out that she was married and had a new (annoying) step-daughter, Hyeon Jin. Watching the two of them bicker was over the top insane, but was clearly fueled by denied attraction. One thing leads to another, and suddenly the stubborn and snobbish bloodsucker is ensnared by the headstrong and angry human. Hyeon Jin is just as dumbstruck by her feelings for Mun Oh.

This started out as a very childish, YA-type romance and quickly escalated in the last half of the book to a full blow, cry your eyes out romance. It kind of snuck up on me how intense their love story becomes. The combination of easy writing style and YA setting sucked me in and had me finishing up this story in an evening. It really delivered a solid story with a lot of heart.

Review: The Adventures of Jillian Spectre

The Adventures of Jillian Spectre
The Adventures of Jillian Spectre by Nic Tatano

My rating: 5 of 5 stars

I received a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.

READ THIS BOOK! No, seriously, this book was such an amazingly fun read that I feel obligated to tell everyone to take a break from the boring and annoying life filled with adult responsibilities and check out a fabulously joyous read. The humor of this quick paced book had me desperately clinging to it even though I should have been working or sleeping or doing something else that was not reading.

Jillian Spectre lives in a world where there are a bunch of different “abilities” floating around. There’s a mindreading hottie, a telekinetic bad boy, an amazon-esque muse, and Jillian, who is a seer specializing in romantic readings. She’s in high school and trapped in a love triangle (as one usually is in YA land). As the valedictorian of her senior class, she’s got her future pretty much lined up until her abilities take a scary turn. Suddenly, everything is changing for this spunky teen and it is thoroughly entertaining watching her roll with the punches (or punch back).

If you are even remotely interested in a paranormal read, you should pick this book up. It was a fast paced, action packed, and hilariously fun read (with bonus romance). I read a lot of paranormal romance (really, really a lot), and this one completely stood out from the rest. This author is moving to my favorites list and I’m eagerly anticipating the next installment! Why aren’t you reading this book yet?

Review: Dark Moon

Dark Moon
Dark Moon by Leisl Leighton

My rating: 4 of 5 stars

I received a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.

Holy moly – this book had some serious off the charts chemistry! Yes, there was romance and smut but what had me completely addicted was the sizzle that seemed to climb right off the pages! If you’re looking for a were/witch paranormal romance with some real heat, look no further.

Skye is a witty and sarcastic “speak her mind” type of woman who has spent her entire life believing a lie. Scared of her innate magical ability and caught under the tyrannically rule of her grandmother, she has been hiding from a lot of things along the way. After literally running into a mystery man on the slopes, she finds herself inexplicably drawn to a man for the first time in her life. Jason has been looking for their pack witch for a while now and is determined to get Skye back no matter what. Lucky for him, the attraction is mutual and sizzling from the start. No matter how hard she fights, she can’t truly run far.

There are layers upon layers on intrigue and betrayal that kept the plot twists and turns coming. I can’t say enough about the chemistry between Jason and Skye. Usually a book can kind of sell me on the chemistry between fated mates, but this book took it to a whole new level. I’m happy that the book also gave me some good resolution at the end without any cliffhangers to keep me up at night. I am, however, hoping for more books set in this world because I want to see how things progress, who hooks up with who, and how the pack settles. More please?

Review: Slam Dance with the Devil

Slam Dance with the Devil
Slam Dance with the Devil by Nico Rosso

My rating: 3 of 5 stars

I received a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.

This is the second installment in the Demon Rock series. They’re demons who have to feed off the audience to live, unless they encounter their Muse. Once the Muse enters their life, they can only feed off of them and vice-versa.

Nona is a PI assigned to bring Kent down from his rock star pedestal. Kent is a demon who has had his heart broken before and isn’t interested in finding the one woman who can rule his life. Obviously, this turns out to be the most unconventional choice for his rock star lifestyle – Nona. They both move along, kicking and screaming and fighting their urges, but when they finally come together it’s fireworks and explosions all the way.

I should really comment on the writing style of this author. Rather than your typical smutty paranormal romance read, the author definitely injects some poetry into the books of the series. There are lots of flowery descriptions and song lyrics interspersed with the regular flow of the story. You may love it or hate it, but it’s a change from the “norm.” These books are definitely not your typical paranormal romance reads.

Review: Lucas

Lucas
Lucas by D.B. Reynolds

My rating: 4 of 5 stars

I received a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.

After reading the short story leading into this book, I was really eager to dive into the irreverent character of Lucas and his love interest, the strictly by the book FBI agent. It was a nice change from the typically strict vampire and the woman who messes up their world. This deviation from the “formula” led to a truly unique installment in the series.

Lucas is (as I said) one of the most relaxed and irreverent vampires in the bunch. He’s got some serious wit and humor that shines through all of his scenes. The fact that he has ties to the very uptight Raphael makes it even more rewarding to watch. Kathryn is an FBI agent on the search for her missing brother. This mystery kept me guessing and pointing fingers throughout the entire book and I didn’t even get it right. Throw our first vampire war into the mix, and this book is filled with action, vampire politics, and (of course) romance.

While the books all have a similar aim (vampire meets girl, they fall in love, lots of smut, mated pairs now), the differences are what make them really stand out. Lucas is a wonderful character addition to the group of vampire lords in that he gives them a bit of humor and heart. The romance between Lucas and Kathryn was sizzling and great fun to read. While she does fight a bit along the way, Lucas just keeps breaking rules to come catch her. I think they are a great matched pair and can’t wait to see what hijinks await them in the next installment.

Review: Betrayed: A Cyn & Raphael Novella

Betrayed: A Cyn & Raphael Novella
Betrayed: A Cyn & Raphael Novella by D.B. Reynolds

My rating: 4 of 5 stars

This was a really good little read that ramps up to the next book in the series (Lucas). You get some solid Cyn and Raphael time as well as a fairly extensive introduction to both Lucas and his relationship with Raphael.

While it’s not the length of a full novel, this sure did have some solid story. Raphael and Cyn are once again under attack. This time, however, it will probably end in a vampire war between Lucas and the vampire lord on his border. There’s some smut and some heart, but it had a pretty sad ending. I hope we get some good resolution to this emotional turmoil in the next installment. Why can’t everyone just live happily ever after for once? Poor Cyn and Raphael are always getting tossed around in misunderstandings and possessive battles of will.

Review: Vampires Need Not...Apply?

Vampires Need Not...Apply?
Vampires Need Not...Apply? by Mimi Jean Pamfiloff

My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Have I mentioned that I love these books? Because I absolutely do. They are funny and wacky and filled with oodles of paranormal goodness. The writing style is easy and witty, filled with the zany antics that only a bunch of gods and other paranormals can produce.

This book was really a continuation of Kinich and Penelope's story, which was left hanging at the end of the previous book. Does Kinich survive his transformation? Will he beat up Zak? The answers to all these questions and more are answered in this installment. We also get a bonus storyline for Ixtab and her reluctant sweetie, Antonio. It might sound like a hard sell, hooking up the goddess of suicide with... anyone, but this love story was just as fun as the rest. We also got to meet yet another paranormal species! The fun never ends with this bunch of characters.

Cimil is still making mischief with her honey, Roberto, but it seems like things are officially heading towards the apocalypse. We get to check in with Maggie (the star of one of the short stories) and there was the bonus of very little talk of the magical sex necklace. There was a bunch of creativity, hotness, and true love's sacrifice.

Don't worry, we get a really solid HEA ending in this one! Hooray! After books with never ending cliffhangers it was a relief to have a nice break from the worry.

Review: Vampires in America: The Vignettes - Volume 1

Vampires in America: The Vignettes - Volume 1
Vampires in America: The Vignettes - Volume 1 by D.B. Reynolds

My rating: 4 of 5 stars

This was a very very smutty addition to the Vampires in America series which consists of 9 short stories set in that world. While not all of them take place after Duncan’s book, the last few do, so make sure you don’t spoil yourself!

I think these short stories are better read individually than in quick progression, like I did. There is probably a 75/25 smut to story in them, so it might be a little repetitive. Rather than review all the stories individually, I’ll just summarize throw some general comments at you. First, Emma and Duncan are still the best couple in this series. Love, love, love! I wish there was more Emma/Duncan and less Raphael/Cyn, but I understand that they are the center of the universe as far as these books go. It was nice to be reminded of the softer side of the vampire lords, when they’re not constantly under attack.

The last story was the least smutty and the most story-y. It was probably the one I was hoping for the most. Sadly, again, not enough Emma, but the story follows the three girls as they hang out and run into trouble (as they often do). It reinforced Cyn’s tough chick persona and made me wish for a true girl’s night out short story. The characters are all fun and witty, which makes for some good reading. If you want a quick read that is filled with smut and little bonus goodies, check this book out (especially since it’s only 99 cents, or free to borrow via prime!).

Review: Darkside Sun

Darkside Sun
Darkside Sun by Jocelyn Adams

My rating: 4 of 5 stars

I received a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.

Wow -- this was a really fantastic read! It started out a little hesitant and slow but the last half of the book had me completely hooked!

We dive right into the action with Addy, a girl who has been able to see rifts opening all her life, while nobody else around her could. She has wisely kept quiet about them until her sexy teacher catches her running away from one of the creatures from the rift. Asher is your typical stuffy teacher, with the added bonus of being Addy's dream guy. Turns out, with much bullying and alpha behavior, Asher ends up finally teaching Addy about the world she should have known about all her life. There is an intricate world of people trained to protect the world from wraiths, and together they are called the Mortal Machine.

This story was really unique and inventive. There was a good combination of romance, action, mystery, and sizzling chemistry. Addy starts the story as a bit of a timid woman. She's pretty sheltered (except, you know, from the rifts), but she's driven. It's her drive that really shaped her in this book. When confronted by the annoyingly vague Asher, she finally finds the motivation to stand up to him. Yes, there are *tons* of misunderstandings, but that slows down after the halfway mark and the book really changes. It goes from being about Addy being taught and led to Addy *leading*, which I really loved.

Fair warning -- there is a cliffhanger. There's no easy HEA for this couple (or the Mortal Machine), but it was a really excellent setup for the next installment. This book really surprised me in an excellent way and I'm left wishing the next book was available right now!

Review: Silence of the Wolf

Silence of the Wolf
Silence of the Wolf by Terry Spear

My rating: 3 of 5 stars

I received a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.

Having only ever read one other book in this series (#5), I feel these are fine as standalone reads. I think the only thing that might have impacted me was the fact that I wasn't dying to know Tom's story. From some other reviews, I guess this has been a long time coming.

Tom is a reluctant escort to a visiting wolf/coyote shifter, Elizabeth. She's been discriminated against all her life by both her father's pack of wolves and her mother's pack of coyotes. Having nowhere that she fit in became even more of a problem when both her mother and father were murdered. She ran away to live on her own and generally avoided paranormals until a member of her old wolf pack contacted her saying he had information that proves her uncle was involved in her mother and father's murder. Eager for information, she throws caution to the wind and heads into another wolf's territory.

The town Elizabeth ends up in was really wonderfully created. The Silver brothers essentially run the town with support from a lot of their pack and a few humans. Almost everyone tries to push Elizabeth and Tom together from the moment she enters the town and it is adorable to watch. All the characters were rich and colorful with oodles of fun quirks. I can see why this series is on #13 because I wanted to know more about each and every one of them. Oh, and let's not forget the steamy scenes, which were good times too. This author has me hooked!

Review: Dark Promise

Dark Promise
Dark Promise by M.L. Guida

My rating: 3 of 5 stars

I received a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.

This world is really one I've never read about before. There's dragon demons, a tree of healing, a Wraith, and a snow bunny all thrown together to save a kingdom. While the description reads like a fantasy, it was really more of a contemporary romance with some fantasy elements (i.e. castles and rulers). This book took some dark turns, but was still a very quick and interesting read.

Prince Eric is one of the last sane dragons left in his world. They're all falling prey to a madness that befalls them without the Song of Tranquility. It's been foretold that his mate will help save the tree that creates the song. Cassandra has been dreaming of Eric (through Eric's magic) for almost all her life. This has unfortunately put a damper on her love life, since nobody could possibly measure up to the awesomeness of Prince Eric's dream lover status. Her last boyfriend took her "frigid" nature as a free pass to cheat, which was somehow spun to be her fault. Annoying.

When Prince Eric is finally given the go ahead by the Wraith to claim his mate, he has to quickly win her over without seeming like a stalker (which he was). His inner monologue was pretty cute and oftentimes hilarious. Overall, this was a little peek into this world that will ultimately continue to be fleshed out in stories to come. If you're looking for a very quick read that involves dragons and otherworldly powers, this one would be easy to tear through in a couple of hours.

Review: Lone Wolf’s Captive

Lone Wolf’s Captive
Lone Wolf’s Captive by Sherilee Gray

My rating: 3 of 5 stars

I received a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.

This was a sexy paranormal read packed into a quick to read novella format. There was a romantic story that left me wanting to read more in this world (which is, I suppose, the point of a novella, right?).

Fletcher has always been in love with Delaney. He was a lone wolf until she forced her father to take him into the pack. Always feeling below her (which was reinforced by her father), Fletcher aimed to make himself into a better man for her. Unfortunately, that took him down a dark road as a thug for hire. Lucky for Delaney, he was hired by another pack to kidnap her.

Delaney thought Fletcher was dead, but now she's thrown into an even more complicated situation filled with betrayal and the chance for ultimate happiness. She and Fletcher have some steamy scenes but are ultimately predestined mates. This was a quick read with a nice HEA for everyone.

Review: Duncan

Duncan
Duncan by D.B. Reynolds

My rating: 4 of 5 stars

I received a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.

This was absolutely my new favorite of the series! I was delighted to see that Duncan got his own book and it delivered on everything I wanted in a good paranormal romance. Duncan remains my favorite of these characters, still.

After much scheming and plotting, Duncan finally gets to show his real power and take over the DC area (in typically vampire assassination fashion). We get to meet Duncan's children and see into his typically reserved and controlled world. How did he meet Raphael? What about his family? All of those questions and more are answered in this book. Most importantly, we get to see him get completely bowled over by a human by the name of Emma.

Emma is hunting for her best friend Lacey, who disappeared one weekend after attending a vampire party with the previous vampire lord of DC. Her and Duncan have some serious sparks from the very first moment and it doesn't let up at all, even when their romance really starts to take off. Emma's internal monologue was also hilariously realistic and honest. It was fun to read and had me smiling and laughing along with Duncan, who was no doubt listening to her closely. The steamy scenes were sizzling hot and the mystery in this one was great, too. I was completely shocked when the mystery was revealed, and it takes a lot to catch me off guard in a paranormal romance.

If you've read the other books (and even if you haven't) this one is a must read! Duncan is such a great character and I'm glad this book really gave him a place to shine. Emma is such a great partner for him and they made a wonderful match (just like Raphael and Cyn). I'd love to see the antics that happen when Raphael and Duncan double date -- maybe I can hope for something like that in future installments.

Circle of Death
Circle of Death by Keri Arthur

My rating: 3 of 5 stars

I received a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.

We continue learning more about members of the circle in this installment of the Damask Circle. This time it's Kirby and Doyle that are highlighted as Kirby learns about her powers and Doyle discovers his mate.

Doyle is a "shapechanger" who is tasked with rescuing Kirby from some mystical problems she has somehow landed herself in. She's recently lost her best friend and roommate in a truly horrific way (that looks like other ritual killings being tracked by the circle). While on the run from a monster of sorts, she ends up being rescued by Doyle and getting a crash course on magic. There's your typical mystery, but not a lot of courtship romance. It's mostly a mated pair that doesn't fully admit to it until our HEA comes closer.

The writing in Keri Arthur books is always easy to read and paced well, so this book wasn't any exception to that. I didn't really fall in love with Kirby or Doyle, but it was still a good look at more members of the circle.

Witch Interrupted (Pack and Coven, #2). by Jody Wallace

My rating: 4 of 5 stars

I received a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.

Having had no clue there was a book prior to this one, I dove right in and really enjoyed this sometimes hilarious, romantic paranormal read. If you are fine with jumping into the action and learning bits and pieces along the way, it works fine as a standalone read. This book had a neat twist on the same old werewolf/witch storyline.

Katie is in a sort of witch witness relocation program with her father. They do tattoos and ultimately try to avoid the paranormal in every way. Marcus is a werewolf who is trying to honor his sister's memory by essentially bringing peace between the witches and the werewolves. In this world, all werewolves start out as witches. When they have sex with a werewolf, they turn, losing all their magical abilities except those associated with the wolves. Interesting, right? Well, throw in some smutty good scenes (involving some kink) and some truly laugh out loud dialogue, and you've got a really solid read.

I really liked the world that the author created and would like to read more from her. The characters were great and I'm a sucker for some good, witty dialogue. This one (or this series, probably) is worth checking out is you're interested in a paranormal romance that's puts a new spin on witches and werewolves.

Callum by Melissa Schroeder

My rating: 4 of 5 stars

I received a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.

This book was the start of a really interesting new series. I liked the sizzle, story, and characters from start to finish.

The story revolves around a family of cursed Scots who are desperate to decipher an artifact that may be the key to their salvation. Callum, the unofficial head of the family (and their lucrative business), hires a genius in her field, Phoebe, who turns out to be more than he bargained for. Callum is a control freak that appears to only have one weakness -- Phoebe. She brings out the alpha male in him, and it was great fun to watch. There is a good deal of mystery and action that had me quickly turning pages to see where everyone ended up.

This was clearly the start to an entertaining and interesting new series. I can't wait to see what the author has lined up next!

I received a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.

I haven't read any of the other Southern Shifters books, but I don't really think that hurt my enjoyment of this one. It was sexy, fun, and action packed!

Dean and Niki meet on Christmas Eve at a bar. The typical lonely hearts meeting ends up throwing them both into something much larger than even their complicated relationship. Niki is stubborn and sneaky and perfect for Dean. Dean is conflicted and determined and together they made for a nice mix of fighting and making up in the bedroom.

This was a fun read that was filled with smut and some really romantic scenes. It definitely made me want to check out the rest of the series to see what other fun antics I missed out on!

Sin
Sin by Sharron Riddle

My rating: 3 of 5 stars

I received a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.

This book was a sort of mix of zombie/fairy/witch love triangle book. Totally not what I expected, but interesting nonetheless.

Sin is an angsty teen who has been through a lot in her short number of years. After killing a man in self defense, she is on her way to a psych ward when her mother derails their journey and throws her on a plane. She's headed to a group of druid priestesses to train and learn how to defend their world. Admittedly, Sin is a little skeptical, but anything is better than the nut house. Lucky for her, this ends up throwing her into a war against zombies, a traitor in their midst, and into a hottie love triangle. She's got gifts she didn't even know about and a lot of weight on her shoulders, but she seems to manage okay.

A lot of this book involved Sin fighting against her love triangle and generally being angsty. This was a bit of a set up book for what's to come, no doubt. There was a lot of action and gore, but it didn't really take away from the heart of the story at all. No real cliffhanger, but there will be a lot of work that has to be done in the next book.

Blind Wolf: The Complete 4-Book Boxed Set
Blind Wolf: The Complete 4-Book Boxed Set by Aubrey Rose

My rating: 3 of 5 stars

I received a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.

These stories were action-packed, romantic, and even a little dark. There were a lot of revelations that come up quickly one after another, leading to a fast paced read.

Julia and Damian are a human and werewolf in love. They appear to be destined for each other in some way that this story calls the “Calling”. I’m not sure exactly what age Julia is supposed to be, but if she’s not very young, she comes across pretty sheltered. She certainly is brave, though, in all the fight scenes and craziness that surrounds her. The devotion she has for Damien is also clear, as she quickly overlooks any sort of negatives associated with him eventually turning into a wolf.

After all the trials and tribulations in this book set, I really thought Julia would turn into more of the tough chick heroine that I've come to desire in most of my paranormal reading. I guess Damien and Julia kind of balance each other out, with both of them a little timid about their feelings, decisions, and lives in general. The only thing Damien seems really sure of is Julia, and sometimes Julia isn't even that sure about him.

I guess the newness of their relationship should be taken into consideration because this string of books all takes place in a very limited amount of time. Julia and Damien go from meeting each other, to hooking up, to getting married/mated, and wanting to start a family pretty much right away. With mating, I usually give these couples a free pass. The romance is there and the steamy scenes are there, too, but my heart broke for Damien every time Julia would fight against him.

I'm glad there was a lot of closure in the series by the end of these books, but was really sad to say goodbye to one of my favorites. I really wish there was a HEA for everyone. I was completely convinced that there would be very little HEA, but the author really spun things around at the end. All in all, it was a really unique set of books in the paranormal romance genre.

This book series number (2.5) corresponds to a novella, but it is full length and is a really fabulous read!

When we last saw Cora, she was not herself (ha), and since her release from the psych ward, she's only collected more issues. She's convinced her friends hate her, that everyone at school will realize that she's been away being crazy, and that she is really crazy (because she can now see souls). Oh, and she's also got the stalker to end all stalkers in the form of a hottie named Echo. If you thought Torin was a really great heartthrob, Echo is like Torin 2.0. He's arrogant and stubborn, but with a really soft side.

The book starts with Eirik in his new home, checking out Cora, so (without reading the synopsis) I was worried that this would be a simple hookup between Cora and him. Not so! We get some steamy and sizzling Cora/Echo romance that had my heart melting at this pairing. Even better than Torin and Raine (if I'm allowed to say that). There are a lot of twists and turns, but this book had my full attention from page 1. Oh, and poor Eirik! I hope he gets his due in the next book, because he really summed up how awfully he's been tossed aside in this series so far. Can't wait for more from this really fun series!
