My rating: 4 of 5 stars

I received a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.

I haven't read any of the other books in this series, but I don't think it hurt me at all. The backstory was revealed as needed and the characters were developed enough in this book to stand on their own. This was a solid paranormal romance, with a mated pair twist (and oodles of action!).

The book revolves around Tatiana, a vet who can read the animal's emotions thanks to her half-amoveo (aka shifter) heritage. She's got a chip on her shoulder about the Amoveo people, even though her sister is mated and happily living in their camp. After some horses get sick on the prince's ranch, Tatiana begrudgingly heads out to help. Of course, this is where she meets her mate, who she has been hiding from for a while now. Dominic seems just as conflicted about being saddled with a mate as Tatiana, which leads to a whole heck of a lot of denial and running away.

Of course, fate won't be denied, and while the action and mystery were great motivators to keep the pages turning, the mated pair was what really kept me interested. There's a lot of sizzle and steamy scenes wedged in between the paranoia and shootouts. After getting a warm and fuzzy HEA vibe from this book (which made all the couple issues worth it), I'm interested in where this series will go in the future and will have to keep my eye out for new installments to come.
