Review: The Day of the Dead

The Day of the Dead The Day of the Dead by Karen Chance
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

This was a really well written short that takes place within Cassandra Palmer’s world. It is placed after book 3 but can certainly be read as a standalone with no prior knowledge of the series.

Tomas is a vampire on the run and with a mission. He has no money, a very bare bones “disguise,” and has no hope of returning from his mission alive. Everything appears to be going according to plan as he arrives on the day of the dead, when his old vampire master used to round up humans for a hunting game. On his way to save those chosen this year (and, you know, kill his old master), he ends up joining forces with a magical mercenary team trying on a similar mission.

Tomas really lucks out on this mission, not only does he get to take a stab (literally) at his old master, but he also gets some sexy times with an unlikely candidate. Good for him! It was nice to visit with old characters in this series to see what they do in the “off” time.
