The Mind Readers by Lori Brighton
My rating: 4 of 5 stars
I received a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.
I actually had this book on my kindle for quite some time before finally starting it randomly. Maybe I was a little burnt out on the whole YA genre. Maybe I just was tired of the Sookie Stackhouse copycats. This book really "rebooted" the YA gifted world for me.
The story follows Cam on her journey into the world of "mind readers." Yes, there is a yummy love interest. Yes, there is mystery and betrayal. These are all your typical ingredients for every other YA. What made this book different was the level of depth to the story and the characters. I can easily see this as a long running series (I didn't even look to see if more books were available, but I assume they are already). The author really did a good job of taking me for a ride. Every decision and realization that Cam has, I had right along with her. At times, when I was reading, my mouth would gape as I realized how silly I'd been to overlook a detail or how trusting I'd been, right along with the main character.
I finished this book still not knowing who to trust and who is lying. There was a cliffhanger, but I didn't care because the story was so engaging. I'll be looking into the next book ASAP!
