Review: Hearts in Darkness
Hearts in Darkness by Keri Arthur
My rating: 4 of 5 stars
I received a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.
This was a fantastic read! After the ending of Book 1, I was a little worried about Nikki & Michael. This book picks up a few months after the previous one, and we dive right back into the action. Nikki has finally firmly made up her mind and it is up to her to convince Michael to stop being a grumpy vampire! I was really happy with just about everything in this book. It was filled with lots of yummy Nikki/Michael smut, some good detectivey mystery, some good and original paranormal elements, and some rich character development.
The pacing of the book was also really well done. I didn't even notice when hours had flown by and I had not even looked at the clock (or my kindle countdown). The story was so engaging, I couldn't wait to see what happened next for Nikki and Michael (and their blossoming relationship). I was also really happy that for the first time in my recent reading history, the characters acknowledged that they don't really know enough about each other to rush right into a relationship. I mean, I want the HEA as much as anybody else, but sometimes it just feels rushed if they don't acknowledge that they just met one another.
I am also really in love with Nikki's tough chick character. She's becoming one of my favorite heroine's, and it's nice to see the female lead step up to the plate here.
I can't wait to see where these books go! They are such good reads!
