Review: Darkness Awakened
Darkness Awakened by Katie Reus
My rating: 4 of 5 stars
I received a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.
This book marks a great start of a new series! It hit on some of my favorite things: hot werewolves, steamy scenes, tough chick vampires, shifter mating, and action!
The story follows Finn and Lyra's rekindled romance. In typical Romeo/Juliet love story fashion, Finn is a alpha werewolf and Lyra is a royal vampire. 17 years ago, Finn chose to protect Lyra from his pack's then alpha/uncle. Breaking Lyra's heart had some untended consequences, the biggest of which is her keeping a multitude of secrets from him. After the kidnap of her daughter, however, she is unable to stay away. Finn immediately jumps at the chance to help, even though Lyra quickly messes up the math to assure him that her daughter could not be his. Much baby daddy drama ensues. We eventually learn that they want Lyra's daughter for her blood, which a prophecy says can open a gate to hell.
The sizzling chemistry between Lyra and Finn made this book an absolute joy to read. There were many hot vampire/werewolf scenes to be had. In between those scenes, the author also developed a rather rich set of other characters, all of whom had some interesting stories. I would love to read more about in future installments. All in all, this was a very strong first book for a brand new series that I'll be looking out for in the future.
