Review: Dark Promise

Dark Promise
Dark Promise by M.L. Guida

My rating: 3 of 5 stars

I received a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.

This world is really one I've never read about before. There's dragon demons, a tree of healing, a Wraith, and a snow bunny all thrown together to save a kingdom. While the description reads like a fantasy, it was really more of a contemporary romance with some fantasy elements (i.e. castles and rulers). This book took some dark turns, but was still a very quick and interesting read.

Prince Eric is one of the last sane dragons left in his world. They're all falling prey to a madness that befalls them without the Song of Tranquility. It's been foretold that his mate will help save the tree that creates the song. Cassandra has been dreaming of Eric (through Eric's magic) for almost all her life. This has unfortunately put a damper on her love life, since nobody could possibly measure up to the awesomeness of Prince Eric's dream lover status. Her last boyfriend took her "frigid" nature as a free pass to cheat, which was somehow spun to be her fault. Annoying.

When Prince Eric is finally given the go ahead by the Wraith to claim his mate, he has to quickly win her over without seeming like a stalker (which he was). His inner monologue was pretty cute and oftentimes hilarious. Overall, this was a little peek into this world that will ultimately continue to be fleshed out in stories to come. If you're looking for a very quick read that involves dragons and otherworldly powers, this one would be easy to tear through in a couple of hours.
