New Year, New Boo

New Year, New BooNew Year, New Boo by Tawdra Kandle
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Trying to start the new year with exposure to new authors? Look no further! I went into this book with very little experience with most of the authors contained and was pleasantly surprised with a new list of authors to try!

Overall, the collection has a general theme around starting over, transition, or just a zany new life. The pacing of the stories was something I could appreciate, too. The first story in the collection is more of a jumping off point for a larger series or set of stories - there's gotta be more to a story about randomly turning into animals, right? The last story in the collection has a wonderfully finished ending where you can close the book and feel very satisfied.

In between there are some highs and lows, some stories being less uplifting and more focused on the journey, some giving you a glimpse into other worlds, and anything in between. A standout personally was the chance to revisit some familiar characters that Tawdra Kandle provided. While you don't need to have exposure to any of these books to enjoy the shorts here, I think they add a little wink and nudge to the previous fans. While I'm not usually one for short story anthologies, this was a nice way to go outside your comfort zone and give new things a chance - much like the theme of this set!
