Review: Cold Hard Secret

Cold Hard Secret
Cold Hard Secret by Sierra Dean

My rating: 4 of 5 stars

I received a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.

After the difficulty I had with the previous book due to the gritty and dark subject matter, I was happy that this book was filled with resolution. There have been a lot of storylines that have been present throughout almost all of the series and we knock a lot of them out in one book here. Secret makes a lot of choices in this book, so be prepared for the good and the bad.

We pick up this book with a pretty damaged Secret. After all that happened to her in the last book, I wouldn’t expect anything different. She’s darker, more revenge driven, and a little bit easier with the tears and panic than we’ve seen in the past. Partnered with Desmond, she’s determined to kill all her enemies in this book. This leads to a lot of poor decision making, as usual, but at least we have some solid decisions for a change. I’m feeling pretty optimistic for Secret’s life as a whole. Unfortunately, when one thing starts looking good, others tend to fall apart.

If you’re expecting a nice smooth ride for Secret after she starts her healing process, think again. The ending of this book wasn’t a solid cliffhanger, but it certainly didn’t leave me with any warm and fuzzy feelings. Looks like the next book will involve my least favorite of the paranormals. That being said, I still am firmly on “Team Secret” and will devour any and all books related to this series. Even when the subject matter is hard, the writing really grabs you and doesn’t let go.
