Nicandro by Tiffany Ann
My rating: 3 of 5 stars
I received a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.
This story was definitely not the norm. There's romantic elements, sure, but there's also fairies, demons, and art thrown in to round out the story.
Mickie escapes her life and moves to New Orleans to work on her thriving writing career. As a diversion (or inspiration) she takes a job assisting at a monastery, which puts her in close contact with the resident "vampire" Nicandro. Nicandro is, sadly, not a vampire. He doesn't age, but he is a fairy with wings like an angel. The romance was a little abrupt and disjointed, but acceptable in the realm of paranormal romance. We progress quickly from meeting to dating to accepting all the surprising paranormal bits. The secondary story (or main story? I'm not sure) was about the newly escaped demon on the hunt for Nicandro.
The book really begins with an introduction to Nicandro's family which I found a little confusing. It honestly took me a while to figure out what Nicandro actually was and how the intro story tied into the events of the present. Along those lines, we do get some dramatic tension in the form of the demon hunting Nicandro. Sadly, this ends in a pretty dramatic cliffhanger that leaves a lot of unanswered questions. I wish we got to see more of the interaction between Nicandro's "sons" and himself. I guess I just generally wished there was more book to read.
